The Machrie Hotel & Golf Links, Islay

Whilst at Hudson Architects, John was Project architect, working with a fantastic team of consultants and specialists to transform ‘The Machrie,’ a much-loved local landmark which had fallen into disrepair, into a unique 47-bedroom boutique golf hotel, located on the idyllic Laggan Bay on the Isle of Islay. The front elevation of the existing hotel was sensitively refurbished, retaining many original features to contrast against the more contemporary wings and buildings which face the golf course. These new buildings offer high ceilings and incredible views. Externally the building sits well in the landscape by use of local materials and forms.
